How To Safely Buy WoW Gold

Just the other day I read this post on World of Warcraft Gold Guides about how a chap got his account banned simply for buying gold. A scary story indeed, though I do wonder if it is a real story. I have bought gold in the past and have known others who have as well with no problems. With all the on-going account bans, however, buying gold may very well now be a hazardous activity.

It’s no secret that in the past people who bought cheap WoW gold from sellers that used duping had their accounts banned. It is a simple matter for Blizzard to track the duped gold from account to account. However, gold bought from “safe” businesses which got their gold from the mundane yet effective method of paying people to grind 24 hours a day was pretty much always a safe bet. Perhaps it is not so any more.

So what do I do if I really want to buy some gold without risking my account? There is a way to “launder” the gold in a way that Blizzard has not yet begun tracking or is not able to track for whatever reason (it’s doubtful they actually CAN’T track it). I’ve outlined it below:

1. Have an alternate account. This is crucial as it will be your ban-shield. How you get it is your own business, but remember: do not use a friend’s account unless they don’t care if it is banned and scamming accounts is just plain wrong - don’t do it. That being said, you can go out and buy the base WoW game for $20 and just consider that a gold-buying tax.

2. Create a level one character on your alternate account and run it to the nearest city with a mailbox and an auction house. When you purchase your gold, have it sent to this character.

3. Log into your main account and create another throw-away level one character and run to the nearest auction house. Now create an auction for something like your basic starter chest piece for the amount of gold you bought.

4. Log back into your alternate account and using the gold you bought, buyout your main account’s auction. Now logout and delete the alternate character.

5. Login to your main account’s throw-away character, collect the gold and mail it to your real main. Now logout and delete the throw-away character.

Note: Blizzard will definitely make the effort to track you if you post auctions with exhorbitent buyouts, such as a kobold candle for 5,000 gold. If you want to buy more than 500 gold, split up your auctions to attract less attention.

Also remember that this is not a full-proof scheme - Blizzard IS the matrix, so-to-speak, so they CAN track anything occurring in-game they want, no matter how hard you attempt to obfuscate your trail.
