The Best WoW Gold Guide

Farming Scarlet Monastery Graveyard Solo - Level 42+

Farming instances solo has long been a WoW gold farmer’s favorite past-time. No ganking, nobody else to deal with … and some of the best drops in the game. Very early on it was apparent the best instance to farm was the Scarlet Monastery Graveyard, it became known as the home of The Butcher - a very rare and very sought-after sword. But it is very likely that as of some several months ago this was nerfed (now Butcher has the same chance to drop anywhere in SM).

Regardless of whether or not the SM Graveyard has been nerfed, it is still an excellent place to hone your solo instance gold farming skills at a relatively low level while still turning a decent profit.

For this WoW gold solo farming expedition you should be at least level 42 in any class; the main reason to solo is because grouping will reduce your take of the WoW Gold to a large degree. Plus there is a lot of satisfaction in soloing instances that at lower levels takes groups of five or more to complete.

The Graveyard is located on the left side of the main hall inside the Scarlet Monastery as you are facing the locked doors.

At level 42+ your aggro will be small enough that you can sneak by all of the humans in the first part of the graveyard. Make sure to ignore them…they’re not worth your time since they are difficult and don’t drop much WoW gold. HOWEVER: If you are level 55+ make sure to kill the group near the chest in the Torture Chamber. This chest has a long history of dropping extremely sweet loot (as in a blue item almost every time).

Go up the stairs into the normal graveyard portion of the instance. Here’s where the skill comes in. There are three main types of mobs in this area: Anguished Undead, Haunting Phantasm, and best of all the (non-elite) Unfettered Spirits.

At level 42 you’d do best to ignore the elite Anguished Undead and Haunting Phantasms, they are not worth your time. The Unfettered Spirits roam in groups of three and are very easy to defeat, but here’s the kicker: these non-elite mobs drop loot like elites. On average you’ll get five silver a kill plus random loot that usually includes 1-3 silk.

In an hour I gained about 6 gold and filled all my bags with a few green items and a blue item. Plus I looted tons of silk cloth which I used to gain Darnassus and Ironforge reputation. Granted it is harder to make good loot these days since the five-reset-per-hour instance rule, but it is still possible to rake in a pretty decent amount. And it’s fun.

Now to find out the best way to sell your loot you should read Valkor’s Gold-Making Guide. It has all the best auction house strategies. If they taught WoW in school, this would be a required textbook.
