Grinding Motes of Water - Levels 64+

By now most players know that the best place to farm for Motes of Water (WowEcon | Wowhead) at level 70 is in Nagrand (Wowhead | WowWiki), which is why Elemental Plateau is so camped. But not many know that most of those Motes of Water you see in the Auction House do not come from Elemental Plateau - they come from level 64-66 mobs in central Nagrand.

There are three main mobs in Nagrand that drop Motes of Water which are below level 70 and do not require a flying mount to access:

All three of these mobs have around an 18.9% drop rate for Motes of Water, which isn’t great but will still put a decent amount of motes in your backpack. And you will be hard-pressed to find better drop rates among any mobs lower than levels 69-70.

Remember these guys are water elementals, meaning that they are immune to frost damage and the damage they deal cannot be blocked, only resisted. The majority of these also roam underwater, so if you are not a warlock or druid you should have a stack (or two) of Water Breathing Potions (WowEcon | Wowhead) with you.

If you are having trouble selling these on the Auction House for the price you want, I would pick up a copy of Valkor’s Gold-Making Guide. It has tips and strategies that will benefit noobs as well as master auctioneer’s. And the bonus is that you will find a lot more gold-making information in it’s 108 pages than just how to control the auction house.

  1. Shimmerscale Eel in Terokkar has lower HP, are lower lvl mobs, have the same droprate for mote and for the greys.
Those would be my choice atleast. :) Very nice guide this whole site, I must say..very nice.

  2. Shimmerscale Eel in Terokkar, I did a little research:

    0.1185g 81%droprate Elemental Fragment
    0.1325g 19%droprate Primordial Essence
    2.0000g 26%droprate Mote of Water

these are the highest droprates…so, what could we get when we kill 100 of these?
    0.1185g*81= 9.5985g(@vendor)
    0.1325g*19= 2.5175g(@vendor)
    2.0000g*26=52.0000g(@AH)
    Thats 64g 11s 60c from 100 kills

These little guys have 3250hp average, thats 325 000hp.
Thats 1.9728copper per hp, lets say 2 copper per hp since it will drop more then just these things.

So..whats you’re dps? how much will you make in an hour? :)
Lets say you can chop of 200hp per sec, thats roughly 4s per second..2g 40s per min…144g per hour.

I tried the grind for 1 hour, killed 247 Eels, earned 193g, average dps for that hour was 252.5.

They’re mostly lvl62-63, easy grindable at lvl61 atleast. Very satisfying when you’re a lvl69 warlock looking to earn those 5000g. :)

  3. sry for the “spam”, but you might also want to know how many motes of water I got? 76 motes in 1 hour. That amounts to 31%droprate. Its probably less, but hey, thats my numbers atleast.

  4. As a sidenote; the muck spawn in the lake below Halaa are NOT immune to frost damage as most water elemental are. From what I understand, they’re resistant to nature damage instead. I guess being “muck” puts them closer to earth than water.

This makes these lakes the perfect spot to farm motes for frost mages.

    Good luck all…Ooogy
