#1 Mote of Water Farming Spot - Levels 62+

Here is a tip to let you know the best place in the game (that I know about) to farm Motes of Water (WowEcon | Wowhead). This is good for characters levels 62 and up!

As with any mote, there are several decent places to farm in game. Earlier I covered farming Motes of Water in Nagrand, and this is a great way to rack them up especially if you are already questing or grinding in that zone. However, if you need a solid stack of Motes of Water quickly (whether for gold or crafting) the optimal place to farm these is in a small lake in Terrokar Forest (Wowhead | WowWiki) located due west of Shattrath City.

Shimmerscale Eels in Terrokar ForestThis lake holds a bounty of Shimmerscale Eels, which have an excellent drop rate for Motes of Water and which you can take down quite easily, which is ultimately the most important aspect of any grinding mob. Add to that it is extremely close to Shattrath City and you have a recipe for an extremely easy grinding spot.

One of the difficulties of farming this particular mob, however, is that they exist only underwater. So to maximize your grinding you should have some type of water-breathing. Whether the Warlock spell Unending Breath, Elixir of Water Breathing or even a Nagrand Cherry, eliminating the need to come up for air will increase your farming of these little guys dramatically.

Another difficulty you may encounter is a large number of other players doing the same thing you are. This isn’t the biggest lake, and while it will accommodate two or even three level 70 players, the more the UN-merrier here. If this lake is being camped heavily, there isn’t much you can do aside from coming back later.

  1. Actually, many people farming is not a problem. this lake has a spawn minimum set to it (not sure if there is a techniacl term but it is the best description I can give). Basically, once the number of mobs gets bellow a certain level, more will automatically spawn, giving an almost instance spawn rate, the OPTIMAL number of farmers is 3, one in the middle one in the north and one in the south, however, since the spawns are almost instant (1-3 secs) the number of farmers here can be pretty high and you can still get a very good take on water motes.

  2. The drop rate on these motes are terrible imo. I was farming for 1/2 hour just to get two motes.

  3. Make sure to remember how drops work (or seem to work) in WoW - you can farm 10 or even 20 mobs without a single mote drop then hit a run where the next several mobs drop at least one every time.

I’m not sure exactly why this happens this way, but the point is to not give up. Just like with anything in WoW you have to put in a lot of time to see any reward. If you are farming here or anywhere else in the game and get a really bad dry-run, try leaving and coming back later.

The last time I grinded this area I think I put in about two hours and got about three or four primals out of it. And of course the motes came in bursts where I would go 10-30 minutes with one mote or nothing at all then in the next 30 minutes a dozen motes dropped.

  4. Nice post. Thank you for the info. Keep it up.
